Coats For Russia
Leader: Pastor Don Johnson

Each year, thousands of people die in Russia from the cold. They are mostly the homeless, alcoholics who fall asleep on the street at night, or elderly people living alone. In Russia, the word most commonly used for a homeless person is bomzh, an acronym meaning *of no fixed abode.* It not only sounds like the English word bum, meaning vagrant, but it carries the same disdain, with a strong suggestion of non-person. They are not non-persons, Jesus loves them.

It is estimated that there are 100,000 homeless in Moscow and that last winter one out of ten of them died in the streets of hypothermia because they have very few places that they can go for cover. Life options, like eating and washing regularly, getting medical help when it is needed, dressing cleanly, wrapping up when it is cold, are not available.
Moscow has only four 'disinfection centers', the only places where the homeless can go to bathe and wash their clothes. The centers' main purpose is to get rid of infections and parasites; it's not unusual for people to buy head lice from an infected person in order to get in. For those who are unable to get in they try to stay warm in underground central heating tunnels, most of which have been sealed off for security reasons or try to find shelter in telephone booths or cardboard boxes. Can you imagine spending the night in a cardboard box in Russia in the winter?
I have been called by God to help these people by providing them with one million coats. I know it seems like an unreachable goal but I know that I can do it with your help. Please help me help these people in Russia by making a donation to the Zephaniah Ministry Coat Fund. One hundred percent of these funds will be sent to a missionary in Russia to buy the coats there.
